Hotel Lamée – A design boutique hotel in the heart of Vienna: A Review

After a disastrous start to our trip, involving a super-delayed EasyJet morning flight, we landed in Vienna and headed straight for Hotel Lamée, hoping to have a relaxing stay. From the moment we landed in Vienna, we were overcome with a sense of calm, unlike the everyday stress of London transport! We decided to take the ÖBB airport bus to Morzinplatz station, which takes only 20-25 minutes and drops you off five minutes walking distance from Hotel Lamée. We found the bus option very comfortable, cheap and quick for 8 EUROS for a single trip and 13 EUROS for return. Much better than the express train into Vienna city centre, which is more expensive and drops you off 50 minutes’ walking distance away!

There were a number of reasons why we booked Hotel Lamée for our stay in Vienna.

  1. Central Location (Very close to St Stephen’s Cathedral, in the middle of all the Christmas markets, within 10 minutes walking distance from each one of them)
  2. Great reviews on TripAdvisor
  3. Independent Boutique Hotel

Hotel Lamée Entrance

Upon arrival our recepetionist greeted us with the warmest welcome. We arrived at 12 noon and were informed that they had kindly upgraded us to a suite, which was a very nice start to our trip. As we arrived early, our room was not ready, so we decided to leave our luggages with Hotel Lamée and start off with a lunch one minute down the road in Lugeck Figlmuller, where we had a very nice first meal, recommended by our receptionist.

After our lunch, we checked into our room and were surprised with a complimentary bucket of sprakling wine, sweets and a hand-written welcome card, which really made our first day in Vienna. After having such a stressful journey from London, we were looking forward to having a rest and enjoy the bottle before heading out again for the evening.

The Champagne bucket was in the lounge area, with a red velvet couch, LED TV, wardrobe with a safe, mini bar and an espresso machine. The lounge also had an entrance to a large balcony area which stretched all the way to the bedroom area.

The bathroom is connected to both the lounge and bedroom, with a door on each end, designed with beautiful and luxurious marble. I was pleased to see they had Molton Brown toileteries as they make one of my favourite shower gels (the Peppercorn)! The toilet is located separately from the bathroom area.

Rooftop Bar

Hotel Lamée also has a very cool and colourful rooftop bar. The day we arrived was a cold and windy winter day, so unfortunately, the rooftop was temportarily closed, but I managed to get a sneak-peak before the sun went down!

The following morning, I was excited to go downstairs to Cafe Bar Bloom to try their breakfast.

At first glance, their breakfast selection did not look extensive. However, what I realised as I was eating my way thorugh their breakfast was that, although there was not a huge selection, it was focusng on high quality and locally sourced ingredients. I loved their fresh bread, their Austrian jams. cold meat and cheese as well as their nuts & cereal selection. I am most certainly in favour of quality rather than quanitity and in the case of Hotel Lamée, they have executed their breakfast brilliantly on the quality side. The simple things matter the most sometimes. Once I stayed in a so called “five-star” hotel where they served concentrated and fake orange juice, claiming that it was fresh. Since then, I have had a tendency to judge hotels by the quality of their orange juice, does anybody else do this or is it only me? So having said that, major plus points to Hotel Lamée for serving only fresh ingredients to their guests!

Hotel Lamée Review Summary

If you are looking for a hotel with a central location and friendly service, I would highly recommend Hotel Lamée. In my travels I have always found that independent boutique hotels have a dedicated staff that value good customer service. My top perks of this hotel were:

  • Friendly and attentive service
  • Extremely comfortable beds
  • Quality breakfast
  • Central location
