Breakfast at the new Boisdale of Mayfair – A Review

This week I had the pleasure of reviewing the breakfast menu at the new Boisdale of Mayfair branch. Located in a Grade One listed building and converted stables on North Row, it is a quintessentially British bar and restaurant that specialises in offering the finest in shellfish, cigars and whisky. Upon my arrival at 8am I was immediately struck by the distinctive red and green colours of Boisdale and the typical British mahogany exterior.

The mahogany design continues inside the restaurant with an eclectic collection of classical and modern original artwork.

I was pleased to learn that this new branch was located only 10 minutes walk from my office, allowing me to sneak in a yummy breakfast date with a group of bloggers.


Breakfast Menu

In conjunction with their launch on the 25th January, they also developed a new breakfast menu which, I believe, is to become a great contender in the London breakfast scene. Their menu is a celebration of traditional British cuisine and is offered Monday – Friday from 7.30am – 11am. This is also available in their extended brunch menu if you want to visit during the weekend!

Having looked at the menu, I was immediately drawn to their selection of Eggs Benedict. Considering I had had a meaty dinner the night before, I decided to start off with a light meat-free option – the Avocado, Chili and Coriander Eggs Benedict.

A delicious start to the day with a soft and lightly toasted muffin and a refreshing avocado mix with a subtle spicy kick from the chilli. Others had the Great Boisdale British Breakfast and a generous Lobster Eggs Benedict, which I thought looked the most delicious out of all the dishes…

Another one opted for the uber healthy option – a pretty pink grapefruit starter.

Pancake Menu

In time for Shrove Tuesday, 28th February, Boisdale of Mayfair have also put together a special pancake menu which I also had the opportunity to review. I had the Banana, Hazelnut Praline & Vanilla Ice-Cream with Buttermilk Scotch Pancakes, which was Oh Em Gee… Anything with hazelnut and I’m sold.

If you visit the restaurant for Shrove Tuesday you can choose from either traditional flat or Buttermilk Scotch pancakes and top up with any of the below.

  • Banana, hazelnut praline & vanilla ice-cream
  • Grilled Marmalade glazed ham with melted Mayfield Swiss cheese
  • Scrambled duck eggs, seared foie gras, black truffle
  • Oak Smoked salmon, sautéed spinach, crème fraiche
  • Crushed Avocado, lemon & chilli,  poached Burford brown egg
  • Blueberry, mango, pistachio & maple syrup
  • 6oz Dry aged sirloin steak, fried egg, brown sauce
  • Classic Crepes Suzette – Seville Oranges & Grand Mariner


Overall, I really enjoyed my breakfast experience and the staff was attentive and friendly. I would return to try more of their pancakes and perhaps visit in the evening where you can enjoy cigars, whisky, fine wine and live Jazz entertainment. It is a great British establishment in the heart of the capital’s gastronomic heartland that offers quality British cuisine at reasonable prices.
